Thank you tom for suggesting this.
Inspired by your post I have tried it yesterday for 22 minutes and found it extremely valuable.
This meditation obviously stimulates the gonads into producing more hormones. I could feel the ovaries slightly pulsing afterwards.
And today when I was sunbathing, after the high of feeling the kick of vitamin D being produced, I felt very clearly it was swiftly changed into sexual hormones.
And mind you I am way past menopause.

Indra is the Master of the Indriyas (the senses), which are related to the many kinds of light. Indradhanush is the bow of Indra, the rainbow of many colours. The coloured arrows of Indra rule the senses.

Sat Nam and may you be covered with Indra's eyes!

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Motivation waning

Hi,
I have the opposite problem. When I am most distressed, I find it hardest to practice.

However, to your question -- I am a person of no faith, as far as god.
My thinking is that discipline is the essence of kundalini yoga.
So the teaching/learning takes place in that moment when we decide to do or not to do yoga.

And each time, we have to decide.
I read about a yogi who has been doing Sadhana every morning for 20 years, never missed a day, and he said, every morning he still has the urge to take a day off, and he has to exercise will to do his yoga.

kartar kaur

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: my intro as a new member of the list

Hi,
welcome to the list. And for sharing yr experience with kundalini.

for me kundalini yoga is a lifelong pursuit. and it consists in changing/improving my attitude toward life, my experience of life. In searching for deeper meaning. In being healthy - physically and mentally.

For those who practice a lot of Kun Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, often it becomes a whole-life experience, influencing every facet of our lives.

I'm not saying this at all to negate your experience, just to say there are many ways to experience Kundalini Yoga.

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Sodarshan Chakra Kriya

Coincidence does not prove causality. but in my recent experience I find the exact opposite with "Eyes of Indra" meditation.
I am only 10 days or so into a 40 day practice (just 21 minutes, about a 1/2 hour with invocation and silence after) and I find consistently that everything seems more vivid after.
For example a simple plate of food looks perfectly balanced, like a wonderful still life painting by a great master. This extends to all senses and includes better sex and a stronger sex drive.

Any one else doing Eyes of Indra?

That is an interesting question. I am wondering if anyone else has had
negative effects from Sodarshan Chakra Kriya? This is the only one that
I have experienced negative effect both in my personal practice and in a
class setting.
There are plenty of other great meditations to choose from.

[Kundalini Yoga] my intro as a new member of the list

Just joined. Here's my intro:

It was only after I'd written several drafts of a novel about kundalini
that I learned the word and what it meant and saw that this was what I'd
been writing about. Later, I reread a journal I'd kept a winter in India
20 years ago and discovered by chance that I'd had a kundalini experience.
Here's what I found, a sensation I couldn't explain:

"It's like an electric pulse, made of molten color, the brilliance of all
the silk saris at once; and it pushes past my fatigue and travels along the
wire that hooks together body and soul. Jet-lagged and short of sleep
though I am, that jolt keeps pushing through. I welcome it. It's somehow
part of what I've come here for."

I live near Chapel Hill, NC, in a log house in the woods next to a pond,
with my psychologist husband. I write novels about spirituality, and I'm
a gardener and a kayaker.

Hi Jane,
I seem so resistent to structure that I can't even practice for 30min at a set date each week. There is a place that  teaches it but I bought all these books on KY and it would be so much cheaper if I could get my act together and practice. Thanks for the help.

Remember that KY is best practiced in community and its effects are magnified by regular classes with others. Although your sadhana practice may be solitary, it is important to get to a yoga center regularly and mix with the "company of saints" on a regular basis. Otherwise the diet, the tea, the cold showers, and the early rising can seem too harsh. Personally I believe that you somehow find the right practice for your current stage of life. Sometimes you need to practice for 20 minutes at 5pm because 2 hours at 4:00 am leaves you too exhausted to get through the day. Just remember to love and have compassion for yourself first. That way whatever your practice is or becomes you are reminded how fortunate you are to have the time and space to practice yoga and evolve in increments towards your true self.
Love and LIght
Jane Bentley

Hi Tom
Nicolas sounds like he has an amazing mind. Wow.

I found that the Madhyamika Buddhist dialetic by Nagarjuna was good at picking apart my answers to everything. It negated everything in its path, including the concept of negation. Now all the spiritual books sit on my shelf unread. Oh well.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Selena,

"Maybe Sally had more fun playing Tomb Raider on her X-box."

The "Sally" example came from a story i heard about Nicolas Tesla, who would build one of his inventions down to the last detail in his mind and then run them in his mind.  He would see what would break down and then "fix" it and run it some more. I do something similar when I (for example) choose a new job - fast forward and see what it would be like like in 1 year, 5 years etc.

I didn't mean to imply that there was a set answer:  If Sally has more fun, then that is YOUR truth.  The point of this exercise to allow  your wiser self  to guide you.  Maybe your wiser self wants to play X-box more then meditate!  Concepts can be the enemy of truth.    Letting go of concepts of what is "best" might be exactly the right thing for you right now.

I'll end with a thought from Adyashanti's "The Way of Liberation":  "Many people think that it is the function of a spiritual teaching to provide answers to life's biggest questions, but actually the
opposite is true. The primary task of any good spiritual teaching is not to answer your questions, but to question your answers."

Be free,

Tom

Thanks for so much helpful feedback. I think jumping around from teaching to teaching is part of my problem. Or maybe I just like a lot of variety. KY actually has a lot of variety within it. Maybe it is for me afterall.

This is my understanding and experience KY take it with a grain of salt.I haven´t replied to this group in years. KY too came upon me like a bang but after 6 years...its power diminished. It helped me get over many issues but ultimately these issues (karma) came back. I did 750 days of Sodarshan Chakra kriya, Heart kriyas, Nabhi Kriya for about 2 hours every day towards the end. Hoping  ¨to keep up so that I may be kept up¨, I sincerely practiced KY. It is mixture of practices and meditations from Hindu schools, Sikh, and other types of meditation from other traditions. Doesn´t each type of meditation have a different type of energy from its respective schools. What is hoped to be grained from doing one meditation from 30 days and another one 900 days? Each school carries its own type of spiritual energy so by mixing schools a mess is created and no master will take care of you as you not dedicated to one school of cultivation.  Can you fix a
refridgerator by adding TV parts? How can you gain spiritual energy without character cultivation and by mixing schools.  None of the orthodox religions allow this for this reason.  The initial energy left me and I ended where I started. KY helped me but its effects where temporary. Perhaps for other it is different. This has only been my experience. Kind Regards  Chris Charles Granada

Dear Chris,

Sat Nam!

Great to hear from you. Yes, it has been a long time. I wondered how
you were doing.

I remember very clearly years ago, Yogi Bhajan telling us very seriously
"I never promised you, you wouldn't have problems. I promised you, you
would be able to get through them."

There is a pervading myth in all spiritual paths, that we can avoid
karma. From my experience (37 years of daily practice of KY for minimum
of 2 hours a day) Yogi Bhajan was right. We can't avoid problems or karma.
This is Earth School and we will be confronted to learn what we came
here to learn. Even death is not an escape route. We come back again and
again.

The Kundalini Yoga practice as shared by Yogi Bhajan is not a hodgepoge
of techniques that disperses energies. It is a coherent whole
integrated in the etheric 'school'/ vibration of Guru Ram Das.

It is normal that if you quit a practice the effects will leave you.
You can take a shower and wash yourself everyday for 40 years, but if
you quit taking showers ...... It is the same thing for spiritual showers.
We need to take a spiritual bath everyday.

With many blessings,

Guru Rattana :+)

Maybe Sally had more fun playing Tomb Raider on her X-box.

I stopped setting goals after failing so many things in life.
I have books with lots of practices but I have no interest in them anymore. Thanks for your help though.

Thanks for replying. I wish I knew why I don't care about enlightenment anymore. I liked Buddhism and Yoga so much at one point that I thought about training to teach them. Then I started getting all kinds of health problems...I guess I felt let down by god or life. Then I found out that the only way to be free from suffering is to stop wanting to be free from it and then all the spiritual stuff looked like a joke.

Hi
In my opinion, Practice of Yoga and other meditations are done for self enlightenment not to please god or to overcome sufferings. Yes it is true that once you are enlightened there is no more sufferings. And to get enlightened one has to practice Yoga and do regular meditation. Consistency is must in what ever you do to get the desired result.

I believe, God never feels ignored, he never gets angry, he never curse either. God is always there for us loving and caring and we need him always. God looks after us, true, but he doesn't need us, it like we need light but light doesn't need us.

In fact god is light of wisdom, light of knowledge and light of blessings. And we can get this light by consistent Yoga meditation.

Tom's suggestions are spot on. Mantra music as often as possible helps me keep going!
My very Christian cousins are quite a lot different than your characterization, though. They share their happy bountiful lives by running children's camps and helping in their communities where ever they see a need. Perhaps their example is another way for you to consider deepening your practice by adding a seva component. Or teaching, that'll do it too. Blessings magnifying outward and inward for you.

Wholeness,

I would have to agree with the earplug suggestion. I live near a noisy thoroughfare and my neighbor also has two large dogs that bark all day and all night -- really. I use earplugs and headphone playing Tibetian bowl or Native American flute music when doing yoga and meditation. They both work wonderfully. I would highly recommend investment in sound reduction headphones and good earplugs.

don't have a recorded copy of this one. Did you look on Amazon and itunes.
Perhaps another reading has a copy and can tell you where they got it.

Subject: [Kundalini Yoga] listening to mantra with disipline

Hi Everyone

I have a question. i can't recite a pacific mantra. it tooo long so cutting
and pasting doesn't work so i was wondering if i can listening to the mantra
and would it have the same effect.

I give my time to listen to the mantra for 1/2 hour every day. It is the
Gayatri Mantra and i love it's qualities.

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Motivation waning

The Motivation Waning has been sorta like a koan - I keep thinking about it - what does motivate us?

Here are a couple different tracks to investigate:

1) Imagine twins, Sarah and Sally. At age, say 20 Sarah starts doing daily yoga and meditation practice and Sally does not: Fast forward in your mind to age 40, then age 60.
Who is more radiant? Healthier? More peaceful? at age 60 would you rather be Sarah or Sally?

2)What is your true goal in life? Prioritize and see if daily practice will help you achieve it.

3)If you are not motivated by your practice, perhaps it is time to try a different practice? One wonderful thing about Kundalini Yoga is there are so many different meditations and kriyas to choose from: If it takes a more active practice to keep your attention you can choose an active one. If passive is more your thing now, pick that. Maybe following along with a DVD or Guru Rattanas online course will be easier and more fun. It is OK to date! Speaking for myself I switch off between teachers DVDs to keep things fresh and commit to 40 days practices at times, but also just do what feels right at times too. Exactly now I am motivated by silence and a 31 minute focus on my pulse with eyes focused on tip of nose is very satisfying, add in some Narayana chants during the day and I have a baseline. Adding some physical stuff is a bonus. But 2 weeks ago I was following Maya Finesse videos before dawn daily.

Anyway, those are some thoughts, see if anything sticks,

be well,

Tom

Speaking for only myself I feel better when I have a regular practice - Suffering does not enter the equation, it is all about deeper peace, more joy and discovery of more profound truth.

Announcing a NEW Kundalini Yoga book for Couples
By Nam Kaur & Dr. Siri Atma Singh Khalsa

Yoga Technology now carries our newest Kundalini Yoga book for couples ~ in Divine Relationships: Two Bodies, One Soul, you'll discover how to attract a spiritual partner, communicate more effectively, enhance sexual vitality and potency, and merge with your partner. Nam Kaur and Dr. Siri Atma Singh share the spiritual love lessons they and other couples have found most valuable, and reveal personal insights on building intimacy in a loving and committed relationship.

"Above all there's a love which is real, the ultimate love. We merge not only physically, but mentally and spiritually, in arcline, aura and subtle body. We amalgamate with each other. That is real love." – YOGI BHAJAN

Yogi Bhajan believed that in love and marriage a couple can become "two bodies and one soul." The Kundalini yoga and meditations selected for Divine Relationships will help you find a partner of caliber, release the pain of past relationships, clear the clouds between you and your partner, achieve marital and financial stability, and energize your current relationship. The kriyas are photographed in color with both male and female yogis.

Enjoy ~ Sat Nam

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Motivation waning

[Kundalini Yoga] Motivation waning

Hi,
How do I keep my motivation to practice yoga and other meditations during times when life is going well and I don't have this deep need to be free from suffering?

I know that Christians would say that God would feel ignored but what do other faiths say about the matter?
