You know how tempting it is to click on it!
Esp. since it is from a Sikh apparently.
But spammers personalize their messages with one's interests so I'm not sure.

I have heard there are viruses that are sent like this, so common sense is not to click on anything unless I know the person, and so far as I know, I do not know this person.

Unless it is someone on this list.

[Kundalini Yoga] question: why is the thumb position gender specific with Sat Kriya?

I'm sure this has been addressed before - what is the specific reason for the gender-specific thumb position with Sat Kriya (and other asanas/meditations)?

I know it has to do with the difference between men's and women's energies, but a student wanted to know the specific reason.

Sat Nam,

I have started a new practice. I realised that my mind is out of balance
so I am doing a 40 day meditation for the negative mind, then 40 days of
positive mind and then 40 days of neutral mind. It is going to be an
interesting experience. I am already seeing the benefit with the negative
mind which was particularly strong for me.

Sat Nam! I am happy you are reading and pondering my New Millennium
Being newsletters.

Self-empowerment, of which discernment is an important aspect, is a
personal process. We must train ourselves
1. to listen within
2. to trust our intuition and feelings
3. to act upon what our inner guidance tells us
4. to be willing to experiment and then experience the result - could be
yes, could be no. The result will guide us to the next step.
5. to love oneself, which means eliminating guilt, shame, and negative
self-judgment. We live in a trail and result world, and we are doing the
best we can given our limited consciousness in a world of learning lessons.

There are many, many situations in life that require the above.
Ultimately the test is the extent to which we are at peace within
ourselves, love ourselves, and can relax into the flow of life.

Focus on the above and not on the specific issue and you will cultivate
discernment.

[Kundalini Yoga] discernment

Sat Nam Guru Rattana,
I have been pondering your latest NMB letter - especially the segments about finding one's inner voice and authority. There was one paragraph where you wrote that in order to evolve - one must free oneself from oppressive forces in various forms - including mean spirited teachers or spiritual guides. It seems that Yogi Bhajan himself is described as a Saturn teacher and known to be quite stern with students.
Will you elaborate on this process of discernment a bit? What if someone receives instructions from a guide - to become a vegetarian and decides to consume chicken or fish? Is that disobedience? or listening to one's own voice? Does one's own inner voice always override the teacher's opinion? What type of issues would call for leaving a mentor behind?

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: New Year's Sadhana Resolution

Really? Nobody else started a new routine for the new year?

I ought to know better by now, but I had to trim my ambitious sadhana. Just because I can do 3 minutes of triangle pose once in a while doesn't mean I can just jump to 11 minutes. So now it's "up to 11 minutes" and then a long rest. It's a complete workout in itself. Guess the full time for Outward Bound is going to have to wait until I build up the neuro-muscular integration for triangle pose, but half is doable.

Keep up Kartar Kaur,
Great set indeed, but you will find, also, that if we don't
physically work and extend our selves, it is very hard to relax properly
at the end of our day.
Do you have a bath? Very nurturing AND you get to sweat... very
important for health. Get yourself *horizontal* by 10pm in the warm/hot
water. 10pm to 12pm is a very healing time for the nervous system.
Lavender and eucalyptus, half a cap-ful of each in the water will help.
Golden Milk with 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg before bed will help quiet the
mind (btw, if your blood pressure is low be conservative with the
nutmeg. If not, amp up to 1/4 to a 1/2. More than that you might get
pulled over.
Many, many suggestions but I'll bet your Vata is way off. How many hugs
do you have/give a day? Shoot for 31.

Oh, P.S! juice up some celery. Drink 12 oz or more. Mix in carrot juice
if you need some sweet.

I am so happy to hear that the kriya worked for you.  I have happy memories of this set - I taught it to male prisoners last year, and most of them were sleeping (snoring) during deep relaxation.  A powerful set indeed!

recently I have been sleeping not at all. I sit in a chair in front of tv and dose for 10 minutes here 30 minutes there, and as soon as I get into bed, I am wired and completely awake. [yes, I know tv watching before bed is no good.]

So yesterday I visited a friend and told her how I have this page called "Kriya for conquering Sleep" and I keep it by my side as I watch tv in the evening. lol --If only it were that easy "you don't have to DO the set, just read it."

So I made a pact with my friend that that nite (last nite) I would actually DO the set.

It worked!
I actually slept til 6 am which feels like all kinds of a miracle to me.

I am so grateful for this miracle technology.

[Kundalini Yoga] New Year's Sadhana Resolution

Is anyone else starting up a new daily practice? Do tell!

I don't normally bother with resolutions, but this year, yes! I've had trouble getting back on track since foot surgery last summer, so here it is for me for the next 38 days:
Japji
Warm-ups,
11 minutes Breath of fire in Triangle (down dog),
The Outward Bound kriya (my all-time favorite, it's exhilarating but sometimes I cut it in half)
11 minutes Sat Kriya
rest
chant 11x, pauris 12-15, 22, and 38 of japji

The only question is, where will I bound out to, exactly? Can't wait to find out!
