[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Metallic Taste

I can not say for sure what is causing the metallic taste, but it is possible that it brain chemicals being released during practice.

Check out http://metatoninresearch.org for some insights:  search the word metallic.

If this is it Basically, don't worry abut it.  It is a side effect of your practice and actually sought after by meditators.

Curiously, the same effect is being had by people applying electrical current directly to their head to improve brain function.

Interesting piece on Radio Lab about this:  http://www.radiolab.org/story/9-volt-nirvana/

be well, Tom

[Kundalini Yoga] Too Much Energy (Too Hyped Up) After Doing KY

Hi Forum Members,

After doing Kundalini yoga and KY meditations I usually feel like a big wave of energy is going through my body, and it lasts for at least a day. Usually it feels like my heart's beating fast, like I feel overwhelmed with too much energy, almost to where I feel my hands shaking. It feels like a huge surge in energy. This can be overwhelming feeling and not a welcoming feeling, because I don't like feeling too much energy in my body. I wil cut down doing KY for every other day, or maybe less. I know certain KY meditations are meant to increase your energy. Last night, I tried doing a few KY meditations I saw on youtube.com and now I again feel too energized.

My question- Is this energy surge (after doing KY) normal, and should I cut down on doing KY? It's not a comfortable energy surge; it's way too much energy. I don't drink coffee b/c I can't handle caffeine. I was trying to do it every day. Right now, for example, my hands are shaking a little bit as I type. Are there techniques or things I can do to lower this uncomfortable energy surge I usually get after doing KY?

Thanks Again,

Shana

Sat Nam yogi's,
I have been experimenting with a lot of things namely binaural beats, kirtan's of Krishna Das ji and even some tracks by the hard rock band Tool from their album Lateralus which i found a masterpiece after some research. Music has been my constant and only friend in the recent past. Be it waking up or sleeping or any other task.
But i have a personal concern and i want the help of all of you in this regard.
Is a lot of music having adverse effects on my ear drums? Although i try to keep a tap on the volume but sometimes i just passionately turn it on to full. So just a little bit concerned.
Regards.

Fwd: [Kundalini Yoga] Metallic Taste

I need to add a post script here as I have just committed an error which irks me to see from others....

It sounds as if your liver and gall bladder may be releasing toxins.  If you experience other symptoms or if you are at all concerned, please see your health care practitioner.

Peace,

Joan

Get out your leafy greens and congratulate your liver/gall bladder for getting with the program and cleansing.  As you are practicing Sat Kriya, let your awareness sit in those organs.  Experience the flow, where there is not flow, release, where there is release. What you are experiencing is natural and perfect.

Deep green leafy vegetables, dandelion, milk thistle, bitter taste will assist in a gentle and beautiful way.  And...... water, pure, clean water.

About two weeks now I have felt overstimulated with a metallic taste in the mouth and some irritability and have had to remove all stimulants from my diet and supplements.  It has improved but I am wondering if it is possible that the the daily KY and Sat Kriya have triggered this and will this go away soon?  I also feel progressively calmer (though stimulated!), more fit and more focused so feel the benefits of the KY in this regard.

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: New Member, Looking to Learn about KY and Meditation

Hi Shana,

If I were you, I would probably start off with a 12 minuted meditation
called kirtan kriya. Try it for 40 days and see if it works for you.
http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/kyt15.html
You can expand it up to 31 minutes for an even deeper effect.
It is a little complex, but very nice to bring things into balance.

Dear Tom,

I started attending KY classes at the yoga center near me. I plan on going every other day or so for one month (the length of my trial membership). The KY class I attended yesterday was quite physical. At home, I also started doing the "Fists of Anger" kriya. It's short and simple to do. I do it 30 seconds- 3 minutes/day. I will try doing it for 40 days straight.

In the KY DVD I rented by Ana Brett and Ravi Singh, there was a meditation similar to the Kirtan Kriya. Should I try to do both kriyas for 40 days? (The Fists of Anger kriya and the Kirtan Kriya)?

Thank You,

Shana

Sat Nam, I teach Kundalini Yoga in Rogers, AR. Some of the movement may ask that you look upward, to the 3rd eye, some may ask that you look down, some have not direction – and sometimes it is just "focus on the 3rd eye" with you attention, not, necessarily turning your closed eyes upward. And I always believe that if it is hurting, stop, rest (for a few minutes or a few weeks) and just do what you can – i.e. continue with the movement but w/o turning up your eyes. In time, you'll be able to do it longer w/o pain

Thank you for responding! I do KY DVD's at home. I have also taken a KY class at a local yoga center.

I have another question- when we do the KY exercises we're told to look up and in at the 3rd eye the whole time we're doing the exercises. My eyes hurt after doing this for 3 days ( I mean practicing at home the KY DVD's 3 days in a row) and I'm a little worried that it will cause problems for my eyes and eye muscles. Do I have to look up and in at my 3rd eye point during the exercises? Can I just close my eyes and do the exercises? I don't want to hurt my eyes and get cross-eyed eventually from doing this drishti on the 3rd eye lol.

Thank You,

Shana

Guru Rattana streaming videos are for you.  You can subscribe on www.yogatech.com for less thatn $8 a month for as many classes as you wish to watch. I explain all the details you are looking for.

I read through a few of the online lessons (I know I should be going slower through the classes). So far, I've been trying to meditate on my own (either by watching my breath or by just being silent). I'm not sure what I'm doing with meditation.

Get my book THE POWER OF NEUTRAL also available on www.yogatech.com

The online class recommends that the student should at least to try silent meditation on it's own for 40 days straight,

That is way too long. Get started with the practices.

then move on in the class.

I've been doing the silent meditation for 3 days, but it's hard to stay with, because I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing,

* The Power of Neutral will tell you whatt to do.

and I don't see the benefit in just sitting in silent meditation for 5 minutes each day.

* You will later and will be able to monitor your progress.

Sometimes I watch my breath (which always gets me lightheaded) and sometimes I just remain silent.

I would like to move onto the "Tuning In" mantra. I don't want to do it wrong, though.

Move on!

Blessings,

Guru Rattana :+)

Thank You,
