[Kundalini Yoga] Need Advise

Recently my brother in law (sister's husband ) (G) passed away he was 43 and he lives his wife and 3 kids aged 10, 9 & 8 behind. Another brother in law of mine who was close to him says that he keeps hearing G call out to him to join him even at 7am when its light and lately he's not well. Is there any mantra he can to chant to counter this and send the soul back to light or is there a kriya for alignment etc.

Also, I am breathing, then putting my hand down while the breath is being held. Is this OK? 31 minutes is a long time to hold my arm up.

* I agree. I put my arm down too for that long. Just monitor not loosing air.

Lastly, I to the Sodarshan Chakra Kriya first thing in the morning, pretty much within 10 minutes of getting up. I also so SA TA NA MA with the fingers for my afternoon meditation (31 minutes) followed by silence (29 minutes)

Is it weird to do Sodarshan Chakra Kriya and SA TA NA MA in the same day?

* No. Whatever works for you.

Would it be better to just do an hour of silence in the afternoon for the 40 days I will be doing Sodarshan Chakra Kriya?

* I think your choice of sa ta na ma in the afternoon followed by silence is good. Do you have time for some silence after sck? Silence is golden after the mantra meditations.

Cleansing and Purification Practices

From my forthcoming book --

To take care of our body, we have to know how to exercise correctly, to eat so that we digest our food, to get enough sleep, and to balance our activities to reduce stress and maintain a relaxed state of being. Purification and diet are critical to bringing our body and physical and etheric centers into balance.

In traditional yoga, one starts with fasting and cleansing of the colon. As the colon is cleansed of excess accumulated debris, it begins to take on a very dynamic activity through all its interconnected nerve endings. It communicates with all other organs and centers in the body to trigger them to release their accumulated toxins and poisons into the blood stream. Part of the detoxification process happens through elimination from the colon. Toxins are also processed through the liver and eliminated through the lungs, kidneys, skin and bloodstream.

***Tightness and pain in the lower back is often related to blocked energy of an impacted colon. Navel and lower chakra exercises must be accompanied by a cleansing diet to alleviate these issues.

The cleansing of the organs, energy centers and body systems can be assisted by certain herbs that trigger various organs to discharge their toxic waste. Fresh raw vegetable juices provide the organic minerals that are drawn directly to the various centers that accumulate the minerals, build a charge and in the process discharge accumulated toxic waste.

Without the prerequisite cleansing, it becomes more difficult to effect the secretions of the glands and charging of the nerve centers. The process takes much longer and may be somewhat disjointed or impeded. When dietary cleansing and purification is combined with yoga, Pranayama, mantra meditation and devotional practices, there is a rapid progress towards the purification of our body vessel.

In the Yogi Bhajan video. He adds things that are not in the 'official' directions (1) Keep your right hand up while pumping, (2) count with the fingers, (3) the pumps should take 30 seconds, (4) 2 complete cycles take about one minute (I can't figure that math out. The long deep breath takes a while.)

Interesting he says wahe guru is a body sound.

It is also not clear how to pump the navel which is the most confusing part that people try to figure out.

Everyone must figure out the pumping in a way that works for them. If it is too dramatic it will take too long and one runs out of breath. Also it is my experience that it must be done delicately to not exhaust the kidneys and navel.

[Kundalini Yoga] S.510 Info on Farm Bill

Sat Nam Everyone,

I am writing about U.S. Senate bill.... S. 510, otherwise known as the
Farm Bill, but called the "Food Safety Modernization Act." It will be
voted on this coming Monday, November 29th.

Basically, this bill will do the following:

- Gives FDA LOTS of power to shut down family farms

- drives up the costs of food production by adding even more layers of
government interference (17,000 more bureaucrats and $1 billion
increased spending)

- Empowers the Feds to impose international standards on our domestic
food producers

Another issue that particularly concerns me is that if there is ever a
situation where we have to rely on growing our own food for survival,
that gives the lovely govt power over determining what we can/cannot do...

Sat Nam,

You should listen to your body. The muscles need to relax for awhile. I have
used a magnetic back brace and arnica cream on that area and rested and had
great improvement.

my work I have been lifting many heavy things and I have developed some back
pain. When I do the exercises my lower back around my tailbone area hurts. I
have the commitment made to keep up the kriya, but i am wondering should i do it
if it hurts. and is there anything I can do for lower back pain.

Based on our knowledge of the Granthis, we could ask how we are to open the blockage for the opening of the Agya Chakra, the sixth Center. Remember that the Bandhas keep the energy flowing upward and in one direction so that when the Granthis open, the energy can continue its flow towards the seventh Chakra and the Tenth Gate.  In addition to the well known bandhas, Mulbandh, Udyana bandh and Jalandhar bandh, we have a higher fourth one, Agya Chakra Bandh, the Lotus Point Meditation, using the eyes at the Tip of the Nose.  We must do this bandh if we are to try to open the third major Granthi, Rudra. Remember, the other two are Vishnu at the Heart Center and Brahma at the Mooladhara Center.
 
Keep in mind that Eyes Closed is a mudra that focuses the energy at the merging point of the three main Nadis, Ida-Pingala-Sushmana, at the Brow Center.  But it is the Eyes at Tip of the Nose Bandh that balances them and moves the energy up so that the Rudra Granthi, if open, can allow the flow of the energy towards the Pineal gland, Sahasrara and the Tenth Gate.

Sat Nam, I have been doing Sodarshan Chakra Kriya since June,I concur with the
breathing explaination. When I started Sodarshan chaka I felt as if I was
suffocating and the anxiety
level was so high. I thought if this is my personal meditation I quit yoga.
Today I can see the difference it has made. My breath is full. I have learned to
breath filling from below the naval up and expanding my lumgs to full capapcity
with ease and grace. I actually love the feeling of the proper full breath
suspended. I can see the work the kriya has done on my nervous system, my
patience and my neutral mind. I seem to take life in stride . No projecting, no
anxiety, I know my nervous system has been soothed. I do however keep my eyes
closed as i feel i can focus more on the counting and go deeply into the
meditation. Does the eyes closed really matter that much?

I am going to try to explain as shortly as I can some very basic principles that I think are important if we are to engage in Sodarshan Chakra Kriya. It may bring a new perspective, but more importantly, better understanding of what we do.
 
1. Pranayam: it is known that the process of exhalation brings apana (the eliminating force of the body) up. Apana Vayu has its place below the navel area.  Apana's natural tendency is to remain low in the lower part of the body.  Prana (small p) settles in the chest region.
Yogis know that the exhalation process brings apana up sixteen digits (this is not numerical measure, just a reference measure) while inhalation brings prana down twelve digits.  We, then, need to increase the inhalation process by four digits so we can have prana and apana meet at the Samana area and balance themselves.  Without this balance, Kundalini energy may not be able to move.
2. Bandhas: Root lock or Mulbandh's function is to, by the contraction primarily of the anal muscles, bring apana up and overcome its tendency to stay down.  So, the combination of inhalation and suspending the breath, with Mulbandh, brings the prana and apana together at the navel point.  At least that is the intent. It takes a lot of practice, even years, to achieve this. So let not think for a moment that just because I did some Mulbandh during a Kriya, that I actually moved Kundlini energy or that I opened a Chakra.
3. Fire: Now prana and apana need fire so that its energy may cause them to, if balanced, go down to Muladhara and shake or awaken Shakti, Kundalini.  Fire is generated by navel pumping and Breath of Fire.  Navel pumping, sixteen times per breath!  Here are the sixteen digits balanced out.
4. The three lower Chakras: For every pump unit, if we were to include the three lower Chakras, we need to pump the navel three times as a unit of each unit of the sixteen pumps.  Wa-Hey-Guru sixteen times in 48 pumps. That will generate the Fire energy, Agni, that will bring total balance and allow the Prana/Apana to go down to Muladhara with the lower three Chakras, lower Triangle energized, thus the three pumps for every one of the sixteen.
5. Brahma Granthi: For the energy to flow, there are three important knots that need to be opened. It is the unlocking of the Brahma Granthi that allows the energy to move up to the higher Chakras. The diaphragm bandha keeps the energy up in the area of Anahat once this energy has been released by the Brahma Granthi into the Vishnu Granthi. The diaphragm lock does not unlock it, but keeps it above the lower three Chakras.  Imagine the bandhas as unidirectional valves that once the energy has passed up through them, their applicaton keeps it from returning downwards. But what releases the energy up are the knots or gates (Brahma/Vishnu/Rudra). There are three Granthis. Brahma is the first. If Kundalini energy is to move up to the next level, beyond the first three Chakras, into Anahat, and Vishnu Granthi, Brahma Granthi has to be opened.  Then, diaphragm bandha may maintain the energy up at the Prana Vayu, chest.  While it is located in
Muladhara, Brahma Granthi covers the first three Chakras; Muladhara, Svadisthana and Manipura, the Lower Triangle. Mulbandh alone can not open it for we should never attempt to open any knots by pure force. That is trouble we are asking for since it causes a prana imbalance. Suspending the breath after a prolonged suspension having counted to 48, forces a deep inhalation which tries to close the prana apana gap (14-16) while the 48 unbroken pumps develop the fire energy needed to merge them.  This, while the diaphragm automatically locks itself.  It is the total combination of these processes that seeks to unlock the Brahma Granthi.  Opening the lower Chakras without opening this Granthi may cause a build up of energy in the lower Triangle which will manifest in very uncomfortable problems. This Kriya, if done correctly, keeps us well.
6. Left nose breathing.  Yogis know that it is through left nose breathing that Kundalini Shakti is awaken. That is why in Sodarshan Chakra Kriya we do left inhalation and right exhalation.  It is important that air does not escape/exhale while you are pumping.  If it does, all you pumping energy is going to dissipate. The nostril block has to be complete.  Unless we have mastered Pranayam, I can not imagine keeping the air suspended while pumping all this time without a physical block, ie, a finger.
7. Right hand: I will just ask you to seek Yogi Bhajan's statements and advise, and hear it/read if for yourself. If you think you have mastered Pranayam, and the control of right and left nostril breathing, then perhaps you might have the luxury and convenience to bring the hand down. It takes a whole lifetime for a dedicated Yogi to begin mastering this pranayam technique. Better yet, if you wish to master this Kriya with all the infinite grace that it brings, leave the hand up. Your choice. It took Yogi Bhajan over thirty years to master this, and even then, he would use the hand when he felt weak or tired.
8. Left Hand: may be used at the beginning to help us count, but then it should remain in Gyan Mudra.
9. Eyes: Never closed, that brings the Pituitary. Sodarshan Chakra Kriya utilizes the Pineal gland.  Tip of nose, the lotus eyes, will take you straight to the Pineal gland, by opening the Shiva/Rudra Granthi. Then, our Shakti energy, in all its Splendor, will meet Shiva at the Tenth Gate. (Disclaimer, this has nothing to do with deities but with pure energy concepts).

Wahe Guru!  I hope I clarified some points without being too extensive/didactic. This is the Kriya, if we can do it for at least eleven minutes every day, we wouldn't need breakfast, perhaps not even lunch.

then definitely do both in the same day, so long as they can be fitted in.

As for counting Sodarshan Chakra Kriya, most people find it easiest to use
the digits of the left hand to keep track of the 16 whahaygurus.You touch
your thumb to each digit or finger joint (if you use the finger joint
including the finger tip then you have 16 counts right there with all 4
fingers) very soon it'll be so natural it'll be second nature and you'll get
into a deep meditative state where you can watch the thoughts and
subconscious thoughtforms bubble by.

Just spoke to a senior teacher about the right hand staying up the whole
time and he feels you can take it down of course. I find the finger attached
to the nose distracts me from looking at the tip of my nose. And of course
eventually when you can alternate nostril breathing with just awareness then
the hand can stay down the entire time! :)

I've also just heard that part of the power of SCK is that as we do the 3
pumps for each whahayguru, we're also meant to be pulling lightly higher and
higher, so by the third the diaphragm is pulled abit, and that's where the
magic is, is that SCK helps to unlock the diaphragm.

[Kundalini Yoga] Tree Pose or similar (where?)

I'd like to make a work with my students based on asanas of balance (i.e.
Tree Pose): I've found the kriya "Self adjustment of the Spine" and now I'm
searching for some other similar kriya where my students can follow a
practice able to challenge their balance.

Can you suggest me where I can find this kind of kriyas?

If not, what do you think if I take just the single asana (Tree Pose would
be perfect) to practice as meditation with long and deep breathing after
another kriya?

[Kundalini Yoga] Counting in Sodarshan Chakra Kriya

I recently started Sodarshan Chakra Kriya and want to make sure I am doing it right.

How do you count the 16 wh-hay-guroo? I first started just counting my fingers by moving them slightly, right hand, left hand , right hand plus one.

Today I tried just imagining the number like the face of an old digital clock in front of me.
When "seeing" the number I am concerned that my mind is too busy to allow the subconscious clearing. When counting on my fingers, I am concerned that I am moving the energy in the wrong way.

Also, I am breathing, then putting my hand down while the breath is being held. Is this OK? 31 minutes is a long time to hold my arm up.

Lastly, I to the Sodarshan Chakra Kriya first thing in the morning, pretty much within 10 minutes of getting up. I also so SA TA NA MA with the fingers for my afternoon meditation (31 minutes) followed by silence (29 minutes) Is it weird to do Sodarshan Chakra Kriya and SA TA NA MA in the same day? Would it be better to just do an hour of silence in the afternoon for the 40 days I will be doing Sodarshan Chakra Kriya?

[Kundalini Yoga] Siam Kriya

I would like to start practicing Siam Kriya as depicted by Gururattana in Relax and Renew and I notice that the first asana is done on one side only. Is this correct? I see that on a Spanish website there are alternate sides.

If only one side is used, does it mean this kriya is effective in boosting ida nadi?

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: fear and the 2nd chakra

One thing I really appreciated about the video classes is the emphasis on taking adequate rest time between the exercises to feel what you are feeling and come back to neutral. When you're at home with a manual,(or even the way a lot of yoga classes are taught) there is an inclination to power on through. Particularly with these intense kriyas such as "releasing fear" (another great one in both books mentioned is "state of mind and paranoia"), it's remarkable just how much you can experience by going slow and reducing repetitions or times to an appropriate amount for you, and building up gradually. When you do the sets this way, you can have some amazing revelations, gradually disgorging, examining, and making peace with all sorts of emotional detritus that's weighing you down!

Dear Hardyal,

Sat Nam!

I have similar advise for you. Cultivate the neutral space in your mind so that it is so strong that you do not waver, you do not react. Neutral is love.

Once this space is stable in your mind, expand it to include your heart. The heart is also neutral. And the heart is also compassionate. You will discover the feeling nature of your heart by being in feeling awareness in your body. Feel the heat or warmth in your spine at the level of your heart. And feel and listen to your heart beat.

Then practice maintaining this neutral space and feeling warm awareness during the day. When both are strong, you can communicate from this space.

You can get there by deeply listening. Keep listening. Sometimes the most important thing we need to do in our relationships is to deeply listen. Listen to yourself and to others so deeply that you can feel the warmth in your heart.

Add this awareness training to your daily routine.

Sat Nam!

If your goal is to not live in fear, then you must cultivate a feeling awareness and relationship with the Infinite. All fear stems from our disconnect from the Infinite. We feel we are alone, that we have no support and no place to turn to that we can always trust.

Actually any KY kriya or meditation will work, if you take time between the exercises to focus your subtle sensory system on the infinite presence that is in and around you.

There are many ways to tune into and activate this experience. But we must train ourselves to pay attention and continue to direct our focus on this experience. Otherwise, it never anchors into our psyche. If it isn't anchored in as a real experience and relationship, it escapes us. We never build the experience to the depths that we viserally know we can trust IT.

The Infinite has two polarities. The stable polarity we experience in our neutral mind. I suggest starting with cultivating 'neutral.' This is where I always start out in teaching any course.

There are several classes on the neutral mind on Guru Rattana On-line streaming videos. They are listed under the Air element and Mind section. You can register for these courses and watch as many of the 65 classes as you wish as many times as you like for $7 a month. I explain everything. www.yogatech.com

The other polarity of the Infinite changes and is flowing spiral energy. This you tune into at the second chakra. Spinal grinds and Laya yoga spiral chanting is good to activate this energy. The more you experience it, the more you trust it.

I feel that the most important thing for you is to pay attention to what you are feeling in your body and to the space inside your neutral mind and body.

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: fear and the 2nd chakra

Have you found the one in Kundalini Yoga for Youth and Joy, p. 26, "Kriya for relaxation and releasing fear"? (This is a challenging set even if you cut the time in half, at least to me) In my teacher training class, it was followed, back to back, with a Yogi Bhajan video called, "Take away fear & sadness". This set is totally bizarre and wonderful,and not very long. I haven't been the same since! YB said if you do this set every day for a week, you'll be good. He also said that he was getting older, would not be around much longer, and thought his students were ready for it. Touching.

Sat Nam, think about your two arms, straight, no bend at the elbow, resting on your knees, hands in gyan mudra. Then, your straight spine. Looks like the three corners of a pyramid with your heart center right there in the middle, the focus of your self created pyramid energy! Yogi Bhajan described it that way one time that I heard.

[Kundalini Yoga] kriya for compasionate honest communication

So I have a difficult situation in my life right now and I need to prepare myself to have the inner strength for honest but compassionate communication.

I have a strong daily morning sadhana and besides my base routine I am currently doing 31 min Ajai Alai meditation as taught by Yogi Bhajan Oct 2001 but want to add to this.

[Kundalini Yoga] Meditation in Pyramids

Anybody knows something about meditating in pyramid structures?

I know you can build a little pyramid of about 1,5 mts hight in your house or buy one in a store for that. Actually I am seriously thinking to do it in home.

I heared that meditating in a pyramid takes you in very deep states of meditation and also heals because is a trmendous concentrator of prana inside.
Also amplifyes the effect of waves of thought for prayers.

Some have tryed to practice KY in a pyramid?
Did Yogi Bhajan say something about this topic?

If some of you knows or has some info about this I will appreciate to share it. Also if you had some experiences doing it to share them.

[Kundalini Yoga] introduction

I just joined the group after a friend recommended it to me. I love
kundalini yoga and have been practicing it for about 4-1/2 years, and
continue to try to find ways to work it into my life without becoming a
Sikh or taking cold morning showers :) Looking forward to
