Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Re: need purification methods

Blessings on your journey Tom. May your cooking be your meditation! Eating
fresh, local, seasonal (check your local farmer's markets) and whole foods/
grains is a great first step. Eating healthy is delicious and is a true
lifestyle, not a diet. Natural foods also provide energy and digest easily
which I find allow greater receptivity and inspiration for the teachings to
flow through as one deepens their yoga practice.

And if it hasn't already been mentioned, I would also highly recommend the
book "Foods for Health & Healing" (Remedies and Recipes, based on the
Teachings of Yogi Bhajan). The book is a fantastic resource and also
includes special sections on foods that are of particular benefit to men,
women and children.

Warmly,
Destin Joy

[Kundalini Yoga] Food support for pituitary gland?

Doing yoga focused on the pituitary gland (Sodarshan Chakra Kriya) makes me wonder if there are any special foods or herbs that will provide nutritional support to the breath and mantra work. I started eating some Goji berries (dried) but wonder if there is anything else for pituitary gland support that is yogi-tested.

Thanks for your insights,

Tom

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: need purification methods

RE:
Thanks you for your replies. I am looking for purification of body so that
it is suitable for KY practices and also to help me purify my mind.

----

Hi Dhanyavaad,

Congratulations on your commitment to purify!

The key thing is that the KY practice will purify the body, there is no pre-requirement to do yoga.

Here in Hawaii we have a saying "Can, can. No can no can." In other words, do the kriyas you are capable of, and if you can't do some, that is OK.

So please don't make the need for purification a limitation on starting your practice!

This group is more a discussion of yoga, and on that front you probably want to read the lessons at http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/
and look at the meditations at 3ho.org. Choose one you like and commit to 40 days. http://www.3ho.org/kundalini-yoga/kundalini-yoga-yb/kriyas-meditations/ If you can't decide, check out Sodarshan Chakra Kriya or Kirtan Kriya.

I assume you mean detox, getting rid of toxins in all parts of your body.

That being said, start with the obvious stuff you have no doubt heard many times:

Drink lots of clean water, especially right after practice. Most city water is not clean enough, so unless you have a pure spring I strongly suggest a water filter. I use reverse osmosis, but use whatever is appropriate for your area. Don't store water in plastic for long.

If you are over weight, loose weight. Your body stores toxins in fat.

I have not tried this, but a strong inexpensive detox is flushing niacin + a sauna. You can watch a video and learn more from Mercola at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF_VeTERa1M

Namaste Laree,
I would suggest watching Swami Rama lectures on youtube.
He gives many hints on how to maintain/sustain/start your practice.
Personally I get very motivated after watching his videos, and while my
yoga I practice is different from what he teaches, I am definitely going to
implement the little tips he prescribes for sadhana.

Take care.

With Love,
Mike

Dear Laree,

As a home practitioner I find that having a wide variety of DVDs really
helps guide my husband and I to practice KY at home. We practice for an
hour almost every day. We just make the time and follow through and now
it's just become a part of our lifestyle routine.

When my husband is on the road for work he sometimes takes DVDs with him
and sometimes just does kriyas from his head. I find I prefer the
guidance that comes from the DVDs because they keep me more focused and
I don't unintentionally "cheat" by cutting a kriya off too quickly.

With a library of DVDs to choose from, you can pick what you want to
work on for the day: a particular chakra? Stress? More meditation or
less? If you make it more about choosing and less about deciding, I
think you will have a much more positive experience.

Dear KY community,

I live in a suburb of LA and there are very few KY classes offered close to me.
I have been developing a KY practice at home over the last few years. I started
to Ravi and Ana DVDs because that was all I knew of at first. I don't mind them
but after discovering other teachers and resources, I am drawn to a different
format. I was working with Shakta Kalsa's Kundalini Yoga book and really enjoy
it. I think I need to buy the companion CD to enhance my experience. I also have
Gurmukh's The 8 Human Talents and really love her writing style, as well as the
exercises. I practiced her Prenatal video religiously before I had my daughter
and it was so instrumental to my incredible birth experience.

I know part of this is my personality (I can be very indecisive) but am
wondering what KY home practitioners recommend that keep them disciplined and
focused. I love all the options in KY but it is almost too challenging for me to
commit to a particular action because I cannot decide between all the kriya
options. My main questions are as follows:

* Recommendations for KY practice for time intervals of 1 hour, 30 minutes, and
15 minutes.

* How can I effectively incorporate focused meditation into my daily practice?
* Music, books, DVDs recommendations helpful for a home practice

* How to be more connected to the KY community via the Internet?
Thanks in advance for any information and advice.

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] need purification methods

Sat Nam Neeraj,
The "Arise and Shine Cleanse" is a phenomenal cleanse, and long
enough that this
person would maybe embrace some new, alkalizing habits. Check out an
online brochure at http://www.sahej.com/The_Cleanse_Brochure.pdf
Dharam Kaur of Tuscon would be the person you'd want to contact. .. 928
774-5694
This is a LIFE CHANGING process!

You can also do a yogurt diet as it is also very cleansing and great for
weight loss. Mix with
Great Royal Diet (formerly known as YoungBlood)
http://www.a-healing.com/10020.html
I personally add fruit, pomegranate, almonds and cardamon.

For a women, Yogiji spoke of chlorophyll as being pretty
essential on a regular basis.

In the end, all the effort towards cleansing the body are of minimal
use, though, if one doesn't neutralize the ravages of the mind with all
of it's fear and anger based patterns. The human mind can create enough
toxins everyday to kill a small animal.

Blessings all Around,
Dharam

[Kundalini Yoga] Fasting

FASTING

There's hidden sweetness in the stomach's emptiness.

We are lutes, no more, no less. If the soundbox

Is stuffed full of anything, no music.

If the brain and the belly are burning clean

With fasting, every moment a new song comes out of the fire.

The fog clears, and new energy makes you

Run up the steps in front of you.

Be emptier and cry like reed instruments cry.

Emptier, write secrets with the reed pen.

When you're full of food and drink, Satan sits

Where your spirit should, an ugly metal statue

In place of the Kaaba. When you fast,

Good habits gather like friends who want to help.

Fasting is Solomon's ring. Don't give it

To some illusion and lose your power,

But even if you have, if you've lost all will and control,

They come back when you fast, like soldiers appearing

Out of the ground, pennants flying above them.

A table descends to your tents,

Jesus' table.

Expect to see it, when you fast, this table

Spread with other food, better than the broth of cabbages.

Sat Nam!

The most basic purification prerequisite is to change your diet to
eliminate toxic foods like processed sugars, wheat and dairy. The body
will detoxify itself on a good diet. Of course the other suggestions are
good too. Definitely do a liver cleanse. Candida Liver Care by Kroeger
Herb is good and a good price. See www.candidamd.com for candida
cleanse. I understand Dr. Humiston has his own herbs. He used to sell
Kroeger. Probably the same thing. Also celery juice with parsly, and
carrot and beet (not much) is good.

Blessings,

Guru Rattana :+)

Cn you be more specific about he kind of purification?

For clearing the subconscious, So Darshan Kriya is a good one to look at. It can be intense. In my experience a commitment to SDK is a 24/7 process, not just your mat time. Be prepared to look at what you have repressed.

If you mean physical purification:

Pretty much any KY kriyas will purify on multiple levels.

There is a video at the 3HO site about liver purification, which is a good place to start with physical purification. It is led by Yogi B. himself

If you have heavy metals or environmental toxins, you might try chorella or celantro as an herbal chelator. Or Liver flush (lemon and olive oil first thing in the morning - lots of variations) For heavy duty cleansing you might check out a supplement called NAC. Really powerful antioxidant and liver cleaner.

Just a few ideas be more specific and I am sure you can get specific advice

[Kundalini Yoga] Happy to have found this group

I practiced kundalini yoga in the early 70s but I wasn't able to handle
it very well, so I turned to other forms of yoga. Over 40 years later I
have come back to it, like now the perfect time.

My husband and I prefer to practice kundalini together at home, several
times a week, with a wide variety of videos. I know it is suggested that
it is better to attend classes and have a yogi, but neither of us would
be good at attending classes in town because we live out in the country
in NM and don't go into town much, if we don't have to.And besides, I
truly feel like we both already have teachers guiding us, because it has
been such a positive and beneficial experience.

I am pleased to have found this group as a place in which to pose any
questions that might come up, and also to hear other peoples' ideas or
feelings.

Sat nam.

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Need of great help !

I would recommend the practice of mantras. Some of the mantras are in this website http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/mantra.html

Here is some advice on mantras taken from the below website.
It is said, "Mantra is that which protects the one who repeats it." The power of mantra is beyond your imagination You can understand the meaning of the mantra, but you can not measure its strength. Mantra is the living force of God. Therefore, repeat it with respect.
http://www.meditationiseasy.com/mCorner/techniques/influence_of_Mantra.htm

Mantras are more poweful than one can imagine. Your intention must be very clear and written down before you start the mantras. If your intention is confused you may not get the desired result or be worse off. It is more important to have a clear intent than to know the meaning of a mantra since it is the vibrational sound that acts on your inner being (just as negative habits act on your inner being leading you into depression, anger or fear). If done with meditation and the correct clear intent mantras are like spiritual surgery.

For best and fastest results seek out a guru to assign you a mantra if you cannot find a guru study the mantras and their purposes well before you start. Select the number of repetitations (multiples of 108) the number of days (40 is minimum) and have a road map and then start - you will not fail.

Wish you all the best and success. Sat Nam

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Menopause and KY

Thanks, Joan and Angela. Your replies are most helpful. I appreciate the encouragement. I do think it is no coincidence that I started KY just as I entered perimenopause and I do believe it has helped in remarkable ways with positive changes I've made in my life. Its enabling me to look at this transition as transformative (though not always easy!) and I certainly appreciate the strength KY has given me. Angela, if its not too much trouble I'd love to see the set you are doing. I'd also be curious to hear how people's practices have changed as they've gotten older.

Sat nam everyone,

Julie

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: Barefoot?

Here are some links about being grounded (barefoot)
http://www.3stepads.com/73177/barefoot-ground-us-discover/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51w2Y8l492I

You know how you feel better walking barefoot on the beach? Grounding is a part of that.

Basically your body is designed to interact with the environment, and a a part of that interaction is the free flow of positive ions into the negatively charged earth. Thyroid, in particular, attracts positive ions and suffers if the ions are not allowed to flow into the earth.

This is very measurable. If you draw the blood of a rubber shoe wearing person and then have her stand in a grassy field for a half hour and draw the blood again, you can see how the blood organizes in a grounded person.

The more you learn about this, the more you won't want to wear shoes ever, not just in KY practice.

Good news is that there are cures - Walking barefoot outside, hugging a live tree, Swimming, long showers, tile floors. Hard core people even attach a wire to the electrical ground in their house and ground to it. (I have never tried this)

If you want to research more, google "earthing"

be well, Tom

[Kundalini Yoga] Re: why do we practice barefoot?

Hi there, here are some reasons I know of:

Your skin is the biggest organ and needs to breathe freely.
Prana is taken in via the soles of your feet
There are lots of nerve endings that correspond to the different organs/parts of your body and are stimulated more effectively when barefoot
The body also detoxes via the feet
Barefoot you're less likely to slip whilst performing asanas on your feet

I am sure there are a lot more reasons for this - anyone?

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Menopause and KY

This is timely for me as well! The night sweats I've been experiencing lately feel amazingly similar to the heat I feel generating when I do spinal flexes for example. Starts at the base of the spine and spreads upwards all at once. Last night I tried the cooling Sitali breath when the night sweat woke me up. I can't say it cooled things down but it did relax me and relieve the irritation and frustration I otherwise experience.
I also found a yoga set from 1971 entitled Emotional Balance and Prevention of Early Menopause that I am doing for 40 days. I can scan it and email it to you if you like. It is a short set, not too strenuous and I vary my warm-ups depending on how I feel.

Think you're wise to recognize that pushing yourself is not the way to go. But why not just continue with some easier KY sets or do them at an easier pace – one that suits your stamina at the moment. Perhaps sets that are more meditative than physical.

Can't say I've had a lot of problems with perimenopause but I'm very aware that many changes have been occuring the last few years and without my KY practice I don't think I would be on such an even keel and able to deal with these sometimes very frustrating hormonal happenings!

Wishing you luck!
Angela

Subject: [Kundalini Yoga] Menopause and KY

I am right in the midst of my menopause transition and been practicing KY for a couple of years. Hatha practitioners have suggested that KY may generate too much fire for one going through menopause. My stamina has definitely lessened since hitting the transition and pushing myself feels wrong. Any suggestions on how best to work with this?

Thanks!

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] Menopause and KY

Greetings,

I practiced and taught Kundalni Yoga throughout my menopausal
transition with no ill effects. There were times when breath of fire
felt too intense and I either used a slower paced more expansive breath
of fire or substituted long deep breathing. Pay attention to your own
body and it's sense of what is supporting you. Listen to your own
wisdom. Embrace and explore the shifts in energy, the physical,
emotional and mental changes you will undoubtedly experience. You can
maintain even increase your strength without pushing yourself by
redefining what strength means to you. This is a wonderful time to
meditate and chant. Celebrate your journey into your wisdom.

Sat Nam,

Joan

Re: [Kundalini Yoga] YOGA AND BIBLE SYMBOLS Kundalini Yoga and Revelations

Dear Paul,

Thanks for the distinctions between Teachers of Yoga and Biblical Scholar. I get it how Biblical scholar look at it differently than Yoga teacher, but we can look at the following conclusions from the Chapter in REVELATION.

"> contexts are the same, that the meaning is. To say Jesus was referring to
> 'third eye' experiences in the phrase cited requires supporting evidence, not
> mere assertion. The short answer to Shambhu Nath's question is "not excluded,
> but not likely".

Those who know Kundalini Yoga, can see that Reveleations is the process of creation and then going back to creation. However, again that will be yogic interpretation. The Biblical interpretation of Revelations is not possible with out knowledge of Kundalni Yoga. Jesus said(In John's vision, "King James Bible--
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."

If you compare it what LORD KRISHNA also said in the Bhagavad Gita
" --I AM THE SOURCE OF ALL SPIRITUAL & MATERIAL WORLDS.
EVERYTHING EMANATES FROM ME [GITA 10:8]
EVERYTHING IS BORN OF ME. I AM THE ORIGINAL SOURCE OF ALL. NO ONE IS ABOVE ME [GITA 12:6, 7]"

I can keep going on, but the Revelations and Kundalini yoga start to converge when Gita and Revelations are read side by side.

Thanks

Shambhu

There exists various meditations to be performed on the day of the full moon.

Thanks for your answers,

[Kundalini Yoga] Testosterone notes

Testosterone has coem up a few time lately. Some comments:

Testosterone is important for both women and men. As we grow older there is a tendency to product less. It is a good idea for both men and women to have your levels checked if you are experiencing decreased sex drive. Another sign is decrease in muscle mass.

The patch was mentioned earlier, and it is a good idea for low levels, but there are also herbal and over the counter supplement solutions. A few of these:

DHEA - it is precursor to testosterone, so healthy DHEA levels can give your body the chance the produce it's own testosterone. Get time release. Works for men and women.

testis tribulus - don't know the effect in women, in men it helps produce testosterone. inexpensive.

tongkat ali - the current favorite in the longevity community. similar effects to testis
tribulus but considered stronger. More expensive then testis tribulus

Blue up - an herbal supplement that combines both of these - a favorite of weight lifters. Get the one withOUT caffeine.

I'm told cold showers help too. And of course all your KY is helping keep your hormone levels healthy!

If you go with the patch or shots, some signs that you are taking too much include getting "testy". But the right amount will increase well being, help maintain a healthy weight and may slow down aging.

I am not a doctor ... standard disclaimer.

"it is doing wonders for him"
- his Mom, Hari Dass

Sat Nam Dear Friends,
I am very excited and extremely proud to share my son Nico's latest
achievement with you!
Through great interest, hard work, discipline and much enjoyment he has
officially entered the realm of team sports! He is now in his first
season of sit-skiing, which is a form of adaptive skiing and provides an
opportunity for kids like Nico (Ram Hari Singh) to have experiences that
the rest of us take for granted.
The people from the NEDS (New England Disabilities Sports) who run the
ski program are truly amazing: they are very dedicated (some are former
Vietnam War Veterans) and they give 100% of their time *for free*! They
work tirelessly for the love of it, but the program needs support. We
are asking if any of you can help by donating any amount to "Team Nico".

*For more details, please read the flier that Nico's dad created and
don't forget to click on the link for the "Nico in action" video, that
is where the Fun is!*
Enjoy, share with others and please donate if your heart moves you too.
In much gratitude,
Hari Dass (Biliana)
