From my student I've got a couple of questions about breath in KY, which I don't feel I can answer properly.
The first one is about left/right side - why do we normally inhale left and exhale right? My intuitive answer would be that left side is more passive (Moon energy) and the right is more active (sun energy), so to balance them we inhale to the left and exhale to the right. But I'm not sure if this is the right and only explination.
Second question I quote: "In sports you are usually told to exhale when you tense and inhale when you relax so that you don't cramp up during the effortful part and forget breathing, while often (always?) it's the opposite of what we do during the yoga exercises (e.g. inhale while lying on the back and getting the legs up, exhale when you put them down or inhale when coming into cobra pose, exhale when going down). So is there a special purpose to it? Like linking the tension and the indrawn energy / "effort" of inhaling on the one hand and having a combined relaxation of both muscles and breath on the other hand? And without the risk of forgetting to breath because you breath consciously anyway?"
To me this KY style of breath seems so natural that I even haven't thought there might be questions about it )) My answer also would be that breath out favours more the relaxing part of an exercise (like legs down) and breath in corresponds to the more active part (loke legs up). But why is it different in sports?
Looking forward to your answers!
