1) Remember that it is a hormone, not a vitamin. your body has a tendency to make less from sun etc. as you age.
2) This never occurred to me 'till last year, but I asked my doctor to check my vitamin D levels as a part of my normal physical. It was no big deal. If you haven't been tested put it on the list of things to ask for next time you get a check up. For Kaiser insurance, just email your doctor and S/he will probably OK it. It is just a few dollars.
3) As a reference point, I was smack dab in the middle of normal and my multi has 2000 iu D3 per day. i am a 54 year old caucasian male.
4) It is an important one!
